The American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association have jointly issued new prescribing guidelines for the impotence drug viagra .

The guidelines say the drug is not safe for use by heart patients who take organic nitrates, including nitroglycerin patches or tablets.

The guidelines also recommend a thorough medical check-up prior to viagra use for some other patients, including’ those who have chest pain or other signs of poor blood flow to the heart, have congestive heart failure and low blood pressure, are taking drugs to control high blood pressure, have kidney or liver disease, and those who take medications that can affect how long viagra stays in the body.
